Fasting Ayyām al-Bīḍ (13th–15th each Hijri month)

The White Days of Every Month

The 13th, 14th, and 15th of each lunar month are known as Ayyām al-Bīḍ (the White Days), named so because of the brightness of the full moon during these nights.

The Virtue of Fasting These Days

The Prophet ﷺ encouraged fasting on these blessed days, saying: 'Fasting three days of every month is like fasting for a lifetime' (Bukhari 1979, Muslim 1160). This is because each good deed is rewarded ten times over, so three days become equivalent to thirty days, which over a month equals perpetual fasting.

The Practice of the Prophet ﷺ

Abū Dharr رضي الله عنه reported: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to fast three days of every month: the 13th, 14th, and 15th' (Nasā'ī 2424, Tirmidhi 761).

Benefits of This Practice:

  1. Consistent Worship: Maintains spiritual momentum throughout the year, not just during Ramadan
  2. Self-Discipline: Strengthens willpower and self-restraint on a regular basis
  3. Abundant Rewards: Achieves the reward of fasting an entire lifetime through consistent practice
  4. Following the Sunnah: Emulates the beloved practices of the Prophet ﷺ
