The Night Prayer
The Isha prayer is the last of the five daily prayers, performed after the twilight has completely disappeared. It marks the end of the day's obligatory prayers.
The Command of Allah
Allah says: 'Establish prayer at the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur'an at dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed' (Qur'an 17:78). Isha is the prayer performed in 'the darkness of the night.'
The Great Reward
The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever prays Isha in congregation, it is as if he prayed half the night; and whoever prays Fajr in congregation, it is as if he prayed the whole night' (Sahih Muslim, Book of Prayer, Hadith 656).
The Time of Isha
Isha begins when the red twilight disappears from the horizon (after Maghrib) and continues until midnight. It consists of four rak'ahs.
Benefits of Isha Prayer:
-
Completion of Daily Worship: It completes the day's cycle of obligatory prayers.
-
Half the Night's Reward: Performing it in congregation equals half a night of worship.
-
Preparation for Rest: It prepares the believer for rest and sleep.
-
Consistency: Maintaining Isha prayer shows strong commitment to faith.
